The Winner's Kiss Blog Tour: Favourite Series Quotes!

Welcome all! I'm super excited today to be participating in the blog tour for the release of The Winner's Kiss, the final book in the mesmerising series from the brilliant Marie Rutkoski. Without a shadow of a doubt I can hold my hand up and say that The Winner's Curse trilogy has sealed its place as one of my favourite fantasy series of all time. It had it all; political intrigue, sizzling romance, complex characters and an immersive world.
And another reason why I love the series is so much is because of Rutkoski's amazing lyrical narrative. Seriously, her writing is so beautifully descriptive, intricate and imaginative. It successfully creates this tactile world that just blossoms and bursts with life from the pages. Its use of highly vivid imagery created an immersive reading experience where the reader can almost feel the exquisite silk dresses, hear the cacophony of music and the hammering of metal on metal; see the gleam of the marble buildings and taste the delicious mouthwatering delicacies. Rutkoski expertly weaves the sensual with suspense creating this electric narrative, both intense and dramatic. Sometimes its downright sexy, especially when it comes to Arin and Kestrel's more romantic scenes ;)

Below are my top three quotes from each of the books. The quotes below are so simple but powerful in their own way. Although the world in The Winner's Curse trilogy is fantastical but I believe the quotes below are true in any world and any context creating this strong bond between the story and the reader.

“Isn't that what stories do, make real things fake, and fake things real?

Stories are magical things allowing us an escape route from everyday life into thousands of different worlds. If life is tough and getting you down you can always pick up that special book that will immerse you into a fictional world so magical and real, that will sweep you away from all your troubles for a time. It's why we love reading right?!

“Sometimes you think you want something,” Arin told him, “when in reality you need to let it go.”

Not only does this sum up (SPOILER ALERT!) Arin and Kestrel's complicated, frustrating relationship in The Winner's Crime (it drove me nuts!), I believe it's such a great quote for real life situations. Sometimes you think you really want something or someone but in reality it may be better for you - and them - if you let it be and let that person go. Deep stuff. But yeah Arin and Kestrel are crazy in the second installment and their intense relationship will hold you in complete suspense. An annoyingly frustrating two-some but I just love them together!

“You don't need to be gifted with a blade. You are your own best weapon.”

I love this quote! I love Kestrel's character and how she developed so much throughout the trilogy. She's strong and feisty and we get to see that in her in many different ways. We find out in the first book that she's not all that skilled with a blade but what she does wield is a sharp and intelligent mind and I just love her for it. It's such an amazing quote that shows that you don't need to be strong physically to be considered strong; a quick mind is just as powerful - and deadly in Kestrel's case. Girl Power!
